“double life”
As an example, imagine a really nice mother who is a great wife, takes great care of her kids and has a nice job. Everyone thinks she perfect. Secretly however, she dates several men behind her husband’s back and tells no one about it. This woman is leading a double life.
Sometimes teens lead “double lives” because their parents won’t allow them to do certain things that their friends do. They seem like perfect kids in front of their parents, but do all sorts of “bad” things behind their parent’s backs.

Here is another example of double life. Until two years ago I led a double life. In one life I was a regular university student. In another life I was an adult webmaster which promoted websites for adults. Selling pornsites is not a thing you would be proud about and talk about with friends and parents exactly.
For me it was a bit hard to lead a double life.

Oh! You gave me a good example! I’m leading my double life behind my parents back even today when I’m an adult woman! Because my parents have some dreams about me and I’m tired to argue with them about those things.
By the way, I’ve been enjoying your podcasts always. Thank you, guys!
I hope you have a good time in China, and if you have a chance, please come to Japan.

There was actually an episode of MTV’s True Life that was titled “I lead a double life,” and featured three young people who have serious secrets that they have compartmentalized to an entire “double life.” Maybe you could find clips from that show to post.
