Pay Attention to this World
The news is often ridiculous but sometimes it can be interesting if you think about it.
For example, I just read that India got 60 million new cell phone subscribers during the past 90 days.
The whole country of Canada has about 34 million people to give you an idea of how huge that number is.
Some people might think, “I don’t really care” or “That’s not very interesting”.
Well, it should be. Sure, I understand, a number of phones doesn’t sound interesting at first. But just think about what it means in terms of possible future opportunities and how quickly the world is changing. 90 days! That’s pretty amazing.
I really believe that the university someone goes to is getting less and less important because the world is changing so fast and everyone needs to keep on learning anyway. The real money and cool opportunities of tomorrow are going to go to the people who understand and do something about all of these amazing changes that are happening all over the world. Understanding the world is more important than ever before and most people are clueless about what’s going on.
Now is a perfect time to use your brain and be creative. Most people don’t think much or travel much. Every day for them is similar to the one before. This is great news if you want to do something important. It’s also great news if English isn’t your first language. Why???
People from the English speaking world, (Canada, USA, Australia, UK…) are kind of like a bunch of little kids with really rich parents. (Life was too easy for them and they got everything they wanted!) Until now, it didn’t really matter what people from those countries did. If you were “normal” your life would be pretty good. You could have 2 cars, 2 kids, a house, a dog, and a nice comfortable life. You had to work, but not very hard and you didn’t need to think much.
That type of situation made the English speaking world very weak and lazy. That is great news for English learners because you know you have to work hard and that’s a great thing. Hard working people (and of course smart working people) from all over the world are getting more opportunities to get great jobs if they work hard and THINK. It’s no surprise that people from the English countries start to cry like little babies because it means they have to stop eating ice cream and pizza all day and maybe try to do something with their lives. Things aren’t as easy for them as they were before.
Speaking 2 languages and knowing what’s going on in a few different places in the world will be more valuable than an MBA from Harvard.
The idea is that learning real English and thinking about the topics we discuss here on the 232 is going to make your whole life a lot better, even if it is already pretty sweet now. I know it’s not going to be easy but that’s ok. It’s going to be fun and it’s going to work!
Love to hear your thoughts guys.

I might be a cynical person but to me still the English speaking world dominates. They know very well how to preserve themselves and their power. When the world will change? I don’t know. The fact you went to China and was OK to use only English make me thiink I’m right about who dominates the world. On the bright side, English is a beautiful language.

Very interesting blog Andy… i totally agree with you, specially with the opportunities that you mentioned for English learners. I could apply for great jobs in my country if i’d have at least an 80% of speaking skills… i guess i’m 60% by now, but hopping to reach 80 and more if possible with your great lessons .

Hey Delia,
The English speaking world still dominates no doubt. But what does that say about the future of the non English speaking world and the opportunities that lie ahead? I believe English will always be the global language but what does that really mean?
I also learned to speak, read, and write Chinese. It wasn’t just like I popped over there and everything was easy and people wanted to give me jobs. Add and I had to work for several years to make this website even where it is today and it wasn’t easy.
Am I saying that our lives were difficult? No. But anyone with a computer and enough money to buy a flight ticket have a lot of great opportunities if they REALLY want to work hard to achieve their goals. People also need a positive attitude and learn to believe in themselves.

Hey Steven,
Sounds like you have the right attitude and I’m sure you’ll do very well.

thanks for the positive comments. well, I don’t want to work hard anymore. I just want to enjoy my life fully, each piece of pleasure possible. is there any country in which I can be appreciated and paid for that?
July 30th, 2011 at 1:37 am
Probably, you’ll just have to be creative. Is there anything you really like to do?
Add and I wanted to do something different so we had to move to the other side of the world to get that accomplished. It was never about working hard, it was about doing something we wanted to do. The only hard part is really thinking it through. I’ve never been a typical “hard worker”. I can’t do the 9-5 thing. I just can’t do it.

Hey guys !!
The world is changing REALLY fast !!!
I believe it’s our reaponsibility to try to make great changes, and not just rely on what other people do coz then no one will work, and changes will ever occer !! Hard work is an important aspect, yet enjoying what you practice in real life, and believing in the future will be the key to best life.
Thanks guys (Addy and Autis).
I enjoy being part of this community.

I think the same that English world is weak. But their level of life better then in India or China. On the other hand usual American man don’t better then usual Chinese man, I think they lazy equally. So why American live better? It depends on many factories, but I think one of most important is organization all people inside a state. If government don’t exploit own citizen, then they have live better, even if they lazy and weak.
About opportunities in new world you are totally right. But we have trouble here too, in China many talented people I think, people who want work hard, but most of them don’t now that they smart enough to get much better job and they don’t know how to get ones.

People in different countries have their own ways to live life to the fullest. Working hard doesn’t have to be labor work or mental work. It’s more like digging out the happiness by making use of every single minute in our life. If we think of ourselves as players in the world of adventures, whatever the game is, Monoploy or Solitaire, just roll the dice and make your next move:D

I’m learning english and french and I love to hear about different places of the world, actually if I had enough money I’d travel over the world to get to know many people. It is critical we understand what is going on the planet.

Hi, Andy!
It’s my first comment in your blog. For a year already I’ve been reading your entries, most of them impress me much. And now it’s high time to share my views with you.
I live in Russia. But originated from Uzbekistan (the former republic of the former USSR). I can’t say I have huge life experience, but still I HAVE something. And the main reason I’m writing all this stuff is that – the best thing a person can do is TO FOLLOW HIS DESIRES!! No matter how freaky they may seem to others (thanks to the Unverse that I realized it in due time). And it really has nothing to do with “hard work”: if you do what you want to do – it ultimately results in something really great – both for myself and for people around me.
…Just couldn’t withhold this… )
Have a nice day! JUST BE!

I want to express appreciation to this writer just for rescuing me from this particular setting. Just after researching through the world-wide-web and meeting advice which were not helpful, I was thinking my entire life was gone. Living devoid of the approaches to the issues you have fixed by way of this guideline is a critical case, and the ones that might have in a negative way affected my career if I had not encountered your website. That mastery and kindness in dealing with all areas was priceless. I am not sure what I would’ve done if I had not encountered such a step like this. I can also now look ahead to my future. Thanks so much for the specialized and result oriented guide. I won’t think twice to refer your web site to anyone who should get guide about this subject.
