135 – New Video English Website
Learn English with a new English video website we are making at Learnenglish232.com
Dialog:
A: Do you think we should let the cat out of the bag about our new website? B: I think we’re ready to tell our China232 audience of what we’ve got so far and what’s in store for www.LearnEnglish232.com. A: What do you want to say about it? B: Well, we should at least tell them to check out all the free lessons and videos as well as enourage them to get in the habit of frequenting the site. A: What about getting them to join the new VIP community? B: Well ya, that goes without saying. I was taking it as a given that they’d find it once they got on the site and started checking on some of the lessons. I don’t think we need to push it too hard. It will sell itself.

Phrases and Vocabulary used:
Let the cat out of the bag: If you "let the cat out of the bag" it means that you expose some secret to other people. Once you let the cat out of the bag, the secret is out in the open and you can’t change this. People will know about it.
Eg. I don’t want to say anything to Jeff about that because I’m sure he’ll let the cat out of the bag.
What’s in store for: This is a set phrase that means "What’s the future for…..", or "what you are going to have to deal with if…"
Eg. Don’t date her. She’s hot but she’s crazy. You have no idea what’s in store for you if you take this relationship seriously.
Frequenting: If you "frequent" a place, it means that you "go there often". If you "frequent" a website, it means that you visit it often.
That goes without saying: If something "goes without saying" it means that it is so obvious that it doesn’t even need to be mentioned.
Eg. Of course you can’t wear jeans to their wedding. That goes without saying.
Push it too hard: Pushing a product or service means to be very aggressive with your sales tactics. You are always trying to get people to buy immediately. If you phone a customer twice a day to see if they’ve made up their mind on whether or not they want to buy the new house you want to sell them, you are being very "pushy" with your sales strategy. It works sometimes, but it also annoys a lot of people if you go overboard.
It will sell itself: If something "sells itself" it means that you don’t need to do any or much advertising or promoting at all. People just see the product or service and buy it. You don’t need to do much convincing.
Eg. When the first iPhone came out, it pretty much just sold itself because there was nothing else like it on the market.
