Listen to This…

You guys probably know that Add and I are Canadians. (If you didn’t know before, now you do)

We thought we’d share a bit of Canadian music with you for the hell of it (ie. for no real reason, just for fun). Neil Young is one of the most famous musicians in Canadian history. I’d love to hear what you guys think of this type of music. If you are interested in hearing some more stuff, we’ll share it with you. Just let us know on Facebook and in the comments below. The song is called “Old Man”. This video is of Neil Young playing live in 1971. The words of the song (song lyrics) are below the video. Love to hear your thoughts.

Old Man

Old man look at my life,
I’m a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I’m a lot like you were.

Old man look at my life,
Twenty four
and there’s so much more
Live alone in a paradise
That makes me think of two.

Love lost, such a cost,
Give me things
that don’t get lost.
Like a coin that won’t get tossed
Rolling home to you.

Old man take a look at my life
I’m a lot like you
I need someone to love me
the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
and you can tell that’s true.

Lullabies, look in your eyes,
Run around the same old town.
Doesn’t mean that much to me
To mean that much to you.

I’ve been first and last
Look at how the time goes past.
But I’m all alone at last.
Rolling home to you.

Old man take a look at my life
I’m a lot like you
I need someone to love me
the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
and you can tell that’s true.

Old man look at my life,
I’m a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I’m a lot like you were.

Hi guys. I first want to say that Neil Young I liked as a singer. The second is a very powerful text and everything in it is naked truth of life. Anyone like his old man and his moment comes when you give your assessment of this. Third thing I feel is that the old man has blamed his son and he now tells him hey look at me I’m no different than you have time and I will accomplish in life. I`m only 24 old. You guys also miss you your old man.

    Love lost, such a cost,
    Give me things
    that don’t get lost.
Like a coin that won’t get tossed
    Rolling home to you.

The song compares a young man’s life to an old man’s and shows that the young man has, to some extent, the same needs as the old one. Young/Old we all want happiness that we can share with a loved one.

I found so many great musicians when I moved to Canada. I think it’s great idea to share music. Neil Young is the most recent one I found out about. “Rocking in the free world” is my favorite song so far :)
Another good band (from Halifax where I currently live) is Wintersleep – Orca. And a new song for me that is very popular here is Toto – Africa. I’ve never heard it back in Russia.

But sadly to say, almost no one in Canada knows who Mylene Farmer is. And she is the best! :(

So, keep sharing great musicians that they become more famous everywhere :)

Didn’t know Neil is Canadian. Often wearing a chequered shirt and a hat, I thougt he must be from south of USA. I do like his songs even without understanding the lyrics – his melodies are good enough. Only recently I looked up the lyrics to “Heart of gold” – my beloved piece.

i wonder if it is anything to do with the generation gap. they are different now, that’s right, but the young man is inviting the old man to see the similarities and remember when he himself was young. the important thing is that both of them the young and old need someone who loves them “the whole day through”.

This is a good song. Very pleasent rhyme and the lyrics lightly fit the music. Just one thing disconcert me – substandard video, but it’s naturally the relic of the past
