Learning English On Twitter

I’ve never been a “Twitter guy”, but I’d love to start using it properly to give you another way to learn English.  I always hear “check us out on Twitter” or “Follow us on Facebook”.

Up until now, we’ve relied on sending you emails, and Facebook posts to get you guys back to visit the website.  There are so many websites and so many distractions both online and offline.  If we remind you guys to come back to this site through an email or a Facebook post, we get A LOT more people on this site everyday.  Even if you like to use some particular website, you probably don’t go visit it everyday.  (Unless it’s Facebook or your email).  I’m almost positive that there are no more than 5 websites in the whole world that you visit everyday.  Am I right?  Is this because you don’t like many websites?  No way.  We just often forget about them because most websites aren’t a habit ,even if they are useful sites.  We’re trying to change that by making our websites a part of your daily habit (Of course, if you want that to be true).  We don’t want to send 10 emails per day and annoy you guys, but we want to make sure you know about anything new so that you at least have the option of checking it out if you want to.

Now, as you probably know, we’re getting into making daily English Learning Videos on LearnEnglish232.com.  It’s hard work, and the point of making them every day, is to get people in the habit of going directly there everyday, because they KNOW that there will be a new lesson.  If people come back over and over again to the same website and use it often, we say that the website is “sticky”.  It’s a useful marketing term.  It sounds simple, but it’s surprisingly hard to make a “sticky” website, even if you put stuff on there everyday, and even if it’s stuff that people like!  That can be stressful, but it’s ok, that’s part of the fun.

Besides making the site “sticky” with useful new content everyday, we need to both help many new people find the site, and stay in communication with you guys.  Email is great, but we can’t go crazy on that.  Facebook is pretty good.  Subscribing on Youtube or Itunes is pretty good too.  But TWITTER?  It should be good, but I STILL don’t know what I’m doing on there.

Well…..  I don’t want to give up and be a quitter, but I do have to admit that I have a lot to learn on there.  Our new Twitter feed only has 16 followers!  HA!  Here it is:  Learn English On Twitter

I’d love your advice and suggestions.  I know that at least some English learners are using Twitter.  Why am I such an idiot?  I seriously get jealous and go crazy when I see other Twitter feeds with tens of thousands of followers.  What are they doing right?  If I tweet our new videos, does anyone care?  What makes people push the “retweet” button?

I don’t want to just beg for Twitter followers.  That is embarrassing and it won’t work.  But I am very curious as to what a good Twitter strategy would be for the new video site.  I want to start using Twitter to connect with fans and find new fans, but I SUCK at it.

I’m kind of laughing while I write this, but it’s true.  If you are reading this blog and you use Twitter, I’d love to hear from you!  Ok.  I’m begging for advice… :(  Embarrassing I know!

Thanks for all your support on both this site and the new video site too guys.  Both sites are growing and Add and I are getting ready to make VIP lesson 200!  It’s going to be a surprise!  I think you’ll really like it.

By the way, if there are any terms, phrases, phrasal verbs, or anything you want to learn, please let me know in the comments section.  I’ll try to make a video lesson on that.  And of course, your comments about Twitter will be a huge help, hopefully not just for me, but for you as well.  I don’t want to keep sucking at it!  You guys deserve better!  LOL.

    Thanks Sung!

Your comments are always highly appreciated. And thanks to all that have been commenting! I am busy thinking up new lessons etc, so I don’t ALWAYS have time to respond to each one, even though I’d like to, but please know that I read them all and appreciate them. It really does make us work harder over here.

Fun Fact: Do you know that Add and I discuss the comments over breakfast every morning at the 232? Just letting you know. True story. If we get some good ones here, on Youtube, Facebook, or wherever, we seem to have a better work day. Just wanted to let you know :)

    Thanks again…..

hi guys, I have just watched the latest video talking about getting up. It looks more professional after adding your brand at the beginning. Good move! :) but if one is added at the start, why not also adds one at the end? I am not sure if you guys would think that would be much more matching. BTW, love to study with you here combined with the video site. It seems to give the audience or listeners an additional choice. Some might think two sites would be too much to handle but in some way, whether or not choosing to learn English with the two site together. If that’s the case, it’s definitely their decision. Perhaps, they should reconsider taking everything slower if they can’t keep up your pace. But it’s always nice to hear some opinions from the listeners, cuz no feedback no improvement. The resource you made or you’re gonna be making wouldn’t be removed anyways. Besides, creating video site is really an excellent way of spreading the words. can’t wait to enjoy your milestone podcast

Hi Andy. First of all dont worry, you are going to be so viral and known by every body soon enough. secondly, I think Facebook is the best way to advertise and get more people to know about you. because every body almost everyday check their Facebook account and they can see your activities on their home . I dont know much about tweeter, I guess public figures or politicians use it a lot, I just hear their tweets on the news.
thirdly, you may not have yet many followers but the ones are listening to you now, owe you their life big time. I mean we really owe you as you were our best teacher EVER!! we learned alot from you, the things could we never learned from anyone in this fast process and easy way. we are really grateful for your help and hardworking. we are advertising your website everywhere to anyone we can, your hard works gonna be paid off in near future, be patient, it just takes time. :)

Thank you guys on your honest mail. Twitter-mania gets more and more into public, but in my opinion it sucks as well as facebook. Why? Because you are force to do something, anything to be cool, to go with the mainstream society. And as for Twitter goes if you are following somebody, and you aren’t checking that every single day, you will simply get flooded with the tweets. You might eventually go crazy about that. So I just once stopped visiting Twitter and since that time I’m free. I am not attached to that anymore. And you know what? The life is still going on and I enjoy and put energy into more important things. But that’s just me.
You know, it is good if you try it. You get excited, you wanna do more and more, and get stressed out, until one day it won’t be under control, and eventually you get rid of it and sick of it. :) At least you get a great experience of that.

    Hello,
I don’t know so much about Twitter. I don’t think it’s as good as Facebook. However, that’s just my personal opinion. Also, I was just wondering if you guys can make a video on how to answer a phone call and have a proper phone conversation on any kind of topic using some useful phone phrases. As you know, talking on the phone can be one of the most challenging things for an English learner, so it would be great if you guys do that. Thanks in advance. Have a good day!
    Lana :)

what up guys. how are you doing? i think facebook it’s the best way to keep us posted, i would like you to make stuff for someone who is working at a call center that would be something like business english, everyday i have to deal with angry customer and is not easy to deal with that kind of customer. I will really appreciate if you guys do something like that

    Hi,
I’m kinda like a new one here. I don’t always leave comment here. But I do think u guys are absolutely awesome. I hear the podcasts every day inthe bus.
I have followed you on both YouTube and Facebook, though I don’t often update my Facebook. I think it’s little distracting. People spend much time on it, and accomplish next to nothing in reality.
I’m trying in to get into the habit of going to the website everyday. So far, they have helped. I can exactly feel it when I am speaking.
Anyway, thank you so much you guys.
    Good luck!

Andy, for me your sites are extremely sticky.=)
I have nothing to say about Tweeter, because I don’t use it. I simply don’t see point of this service. Some of my coworkers use it, and when I ask them- well, what do you write there? – they say, like- I write what I do or think right now. – Is it interesting to anyone??????????????????????
I’m not nosy, so I’m not very interesting in the routine of other people.
On Twitter you can’t communicate, you can only read. I think that it’s kind of defective communication when you can’t answer to someone.
I know, some people read news on Tweeter, but for this purpose I’d better use good site with news.
And of course, some people read what celebrities write. They feel like they become closer to these famous people. But it’s just an illusion. People, live your own lives, become more interesting yourselves!

I meant to write – I’m not nosy, so I’m not very interested in the routine of other people =)
